British Air Display Association Post-Season Symposium
Last month a team from Farnborough International Airshow attended the British Air Display Association Post-Season Symposium at the RAF Defence Academy in Shrivenham.
Day one of the two-day event was packed with informative and inspiring presentations, from Sir Gerald Howarth, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), the Military Aviation Authority (MAA) and also many of the civil and military display pilots and show organisers. They all shared their passion, experiences and thoughts on the past season. Most admitted that it had been a challenging time following the accident during Shoreham Airshow in 2015 which led to many changes in flying regulations and display areas.
Farnborough International Head of PR & Content, Miranda Rock, also took to the stage to share her experience of using social media to communicate with our very diverse audiences.
As show organisers, hearing first-hand the experiences and challenges that face the display pilots, their concerns and what is important to them were some of the key learnings that we took back to the office to share with our colleagues.
The second day comprised of workshops where we worked with other teams addressing some of the key challenges and thought-provoking issues that arose in the previous day’s presentations
There is no doubt in anyone’s mind that 2016 was a particularly challenging one, but in hand with this is the assurance that in spite of these challenges, through the determination, adaptability and commitment from the Air Display Community the display season did go ahead and could celebrate many successes.
Our thanks to the BADA Committee for organising the event and we wish all our Air Display Community a safe, inspiring and rewarding season in 2017
