Securing the future at this year’s Farnborough International Airshow: FIA2024 Partner Blog

Join Dassault Systèmes at the event to discover how new technology is facilitating an exciting future for the world’s aerospace and defence companies.

Every two years, the key players in the aerospace, aviation and defence industries descend on a small town in the south of England to pioneer change. This year’s Farnborough International Airshow will open its doors on 22 July, and Dassault Systèmes will be there to showcase solutions and promote discussion across the aerospace and defense ecosystem.

We will be announcing some new and exciting developments at the show, including how we are building artificial intelligence (AI) into our solutions to deliver innovation at scale. We’ll also be hosting roundtable discussions with our customers – which include some of the biggest names in the aerospace and defense industry as well as their customers and suppliers, to promote collaboration across the entire value chain.

Our theme for this year is ‘securing the future’. We have chosen this because it represents the paradigm shift facing today’s aerospace and defense stakeholders. Not only is there a pressing need to ramp up high quality production, but there’s also huge pressure to meet ambitious net zero targets so that we can transition to a carbon-free world. Commercial aviation companies and defense original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) can only succeed in securing their future by addressing these challenges.

On each day of the event, we will be leading conversations on five different themes, all of which have a role in securing the future:

Day 1: Enabling Sovereignty

On the first day of the show, we will be joined by representatives from Ministries of Defence (MoD), who will explain what sovereignty means to them. We’ll highlight what needs to be done so that modern defense systems can achieve greater interoperability across Europe, comply with increasingly complex regulations and more effectively tackle the growing issue of cyber threats. We’ll find out how the MoD prepares to run a modern-day acquisition and hear its thoughts on the procurement of next generation defense systems to enforce sovereignty.

Day 2: Defence Modernisation

Our talks on defense modernisation will be focused on the progress made by OEMs. We will showcase how we are helping such companies to digitise their product portfolio and transform the way they conceptualise, design, manufacture, test, certify and sustain new air and space vehicles. We’ll demonstrate how, using our platform, they can develop increasingly complex systems of systems spanning multiple geographies while accelerating innovation, driving new efficiencies, increasing production and reducing costs.

Day 3: Uncompromising Quality

Day three will see us move our focus towards manufacturing, with an explanation of how companies can use digital technologies to ramp up the production of aircraft and defense systems while ensuring a high level of quality and compliance with increasingly stringent regulatory guidelines. We’ll demonstrate how the 3DEXPERIENCE platform can deliver more visibility into the supply chain, enhancing traceability and driving new levels of operational efficiency. We’ll also touch on the role of technologies including robotics, additive manufacturing, IoT, augmented reality and AI in boosting competitive differentiation and attracting new customers.

Day 4: Sustainable Innovation

Here we will extend the discussion on how we can fly into the next generation. We’ll be looking at electrical aviation, hydrogen power and vertical take-off and landing solutions, among others. We’ll showcase how the 3DEXPERIENCE platform not only supports sustainable innovation at the product level, but also helps companies, no matter whether that are a small startup or major player, to build a global and cooperative ecosystem with all value chain players to achieve a truly competitive and sustainable industry.

Day 5: Workforce of the Future

Day five will see us spark conversations on how we can equip the workforce of the future – today’s university students – with the digital tools that will allow them to thrive as they enter employment. We’ll discuss the current talent gap in aerospace and defense and suggest strategies to facilitate a positive outlook for the decades ahead.

“This year’s Farnborough International Airshow is going to be an action packed five days,” says David Ziegler, Dassault Systèmes’ vice president of Aerospace and Defense. “In addition to the sessions we will be running, we will also be making a lot of exciting announcements that demonstrate the acceleration of digitisation and innovation coming from our customers. It will be an incredibly exciting week, and we look forward to taking the opportunity to meet up with our customers and prospects while we are there.”
